Egypt is the country that has plenty of magnificent nature and environmental mysteries. Which includes many beauties such as Hathor in Serabit El Khadem, Lake Qarun in Al Fayoum, even Sinai, Luxor and Aswan or even the agriculture governorates in Egypt shows sides that is part of the Egyptian identity that not many people are aware is existing. This beautiful country is known for a lot of things, including its great history, it’s beautiful beaches, the ancient temples and monuments, its perfect ratio of water and sand, with the appearance of the modernised culture that grows little by little.
From the ancient history, Egypt was hosting multiple sports and activities, that over the years it still hosted multiple sports and accepting it as official sports that has tournaments and events even after the appearance of modernised sports over the years. Nowadays, the trendy sprots include Padelpod, Triathlons to Trail Ultramarathons. Throughout the years Egypt started hosting marathons, but eventually it started introducing more challenging events that include multiple obstacles until it finally introduced Trail ultramarathons.
Trail Ultramarathons are a bit harder and longer than the usual marathons , it is usually taking place between the beautiful environment while adding a bit of a challenge. They take forms in multiple place such as rocky trails, sandy, muddy or even watery trails in which runners get to explore the environment of the race through the run of the trail ultramarathon, not only do they run the trail, but they also get to learn about the culture of the site itself.
Serabit EL Khadem
Serabit El Khadem is located in the beautiful Sinai in Egypt. It is geographically situated nearly in the middle of Sinai, but relatively close to Ras Sudr. This place is located in the center of nature where the locals of Serabit El Khadem are living in the beautiful rocky desert by themselves. As they are residents for many decades and know the desert by heart because it is considered their home.
Serabit EL Khadem location goes back to the Pharos and the Ancient Egypt. This location was filled with many unique stones and mining resources. The ancient Egyptians used to mine those beautiful stones that was filling those Rocky Mountains, especially the beautiful Turquoise. They used to mine for those stones to make jewellery as well as ornaments and they even used it to make blue paint which is a pigment extracted from the strong blue colour of the turquoise.
This place is now considered a huge touristic attraction, as it has one of the most well known temples which is called the Hathor temple the great Egyptian goddess that the miners used to go and pray after they work so she would protect them. Not only does Serabit El Khadem is known for its ancient Egyptian history but also the residents of Serabit El Khadem, the Bedouins and their village that goes years and decades back have their own story regarding how they came to live in this beautiful place which they still tell to the visitors of Serabit El Khadem and the new generations in the village.
Ultraegypt
UltraEgypt is the First and only Trail Ultramarathons organiser in Egypt. It was founded by Omar Samara by partnering with some of his friends that shares the same adventurous and outgoing spirit.
UltraEgypt hosts multiple trail ultramarathons annually. They host one of the well-known races which is Hathor trail ultramarathon that takes place in Serabit el Khadem that is located in Sinai. The Hathor Trail Ultramarathon consists of multiple distances and is considered a rocky trail ultramarathon as it takes place in the mountains of Serabit El Khadem. The other trail Ultramarathons is Qarun trail Ultramarathon that takes place near Lake Qarun in Al Fayoum.
Hathor Trail Ultramarathon
The first ever Hathor Trail Ultramarathon took place in 2019, which was the first ever and longest trail ultramarathon that took place in Serabit El Khadem as well as in Egypt. Runners from all over the world witnessed and participated in this event. The second volume of the trail ultramarathon took place in 2020, and since then it became an annual event that gives an opportunity for everyone to try this magnificent experience.
The previous race was unfortunately cancelled, but it will take place again in 2023. They host this race every year to create an experience for adventurous runners to see the beautiful desert of Sinai and to witness The amazing rocky mountains and the pharaonic temples and mines as well as engravings on the walls.
Hathor trail ultramarathon consists of 3 different distances and an opportunity for a Relay. The first distance is the 50K, the second one is the 100K, the third one is the 130K which is the longest distance in the history of Ultraegypt and lastly a relay of the 50K. This trail is considered a rocky and sandy trail ultramarathon, because it takes place in the Sinai desert that is filled with colourful Rocky Mountains and sandy floors.
