Egypt is filled with a magnificent nature and environmental mysteries and beauty. Qarun in el Fayoum, Hathor in Serabit el khadem even Sinai and Cairo projects the identity of Egypt that not many people are aware is existing. This beautiful country is known for a lot of things, like its vast historical background, it’s amazing beauty, the ancient monuments, its beautiful mix of desert and sea, and its modernized evolvement that grows little by little.

Over the years, Egypt started hosting multiple sports and accepting it as official sports that has tournaments and events. Nowadays, it included many many sports such as Padelpod, Triathlons to Trail Ultramarathons. Throughout the years it started by accepting marathons, but eventually it started introducing mire challenging racing and multiple obstacles races till it finally introduced Trail ultramarathons.

Trail Ultramarathons are Longer distances than a normal marathon, and it takes place in a more challenging yet beautiful natural environment. They vary from rocky trails, to sandy, muddy or even watery trails in which runners get to explore the environment of the race through the run of the trail ultramarathon, in addition they get to know the culture of the residents of the city itself.

Lake Qarun- EL Fayoum

Lake Qarun is one of the most beautiful places in Egypt. It’s situated in Fayoum which is one of the most magnificent governorates in Egypt that is known for its division and mix of land and sea, as well as its beautiful residents and their culture, and lastly its mysterious and mythical stories and historical sites.

Lake Qarun itself is know for its vast parameter. This lake was created by the decrease or shift of the sea backwards that led to some of the existing water to form a huge lake that is considered a major portion of Al Fayoum. This lake witnessed many stories, such as Al Nadaha (Mermaid) that called the fishermen through hypnosis and drown them in the lake, or the myths of the existence of Gold treasures in this lake that is protected by fairies and mermaids. One of the major ones is the Qarun mansion, in which they believed that Qarun used to live in that mansion which is why the lake is named after him “Lake Qarun” .

This place is now considered a huge touristic attraction, not only the lake is one of the biggest parts of Al Fayoum tour, but also Tonus village, which cherishes the cultural environment of Al Fayoum residents and its where they practice their pottery making and crafting. Furthermore, it became not only a tourist attraction, but also events attraction and especially stargazing and camping events as well as a Trail ultramarathons and marathons host.

Ultraegypt

UltraEgypt is the First and only Trail Ultramarathons organiser in Egypt. It was founded by Omar Samara by partnering with some of his friends that shares the same adventurous and outgoing spirit.

UltraEgypt hosts multiple trail ultramarathons annually. They host one of the well-known  races which is Hathor trail ultramarathon that takes place in Serabit el Khadem that is located in Sinai. The Hathor Trail Ultramarathon consists of multiple distances and is considered a rocky trail ultramarathon as it takes place in the mountains of Serabit El khadem. The other trail Ultramarathons is Qarun trail Ultramarathon that takes place near Lake Qarun in Al Fayoum.

Qarun Trail Ultramarathon

The first ever Qarun Trail Ultramarathon took place in 2021, which was the first ever experience in Egypt of a Trail Ultramarathon in Al Fayoum. Runners from all over the world witnessed and participated in this event. The second volume of the trail ultramarathon took place in 2022, and since then it became an annual event that gives an opportunity for everyone to try this magnificent experience.  The upcoming race will take place on March 10^th 2023. They host this race every year to create an experience for adventurous runners to see the beautiful desert of Al Fayoum and to witness the beautiful Lake Qarun during their run. 

Qarun trail ultramarathon consists of 2 different distances and an opportunity for a Relay. The first distance is the 44K and the second one is the 66K and lastly a relay of the 44K for pairs. This trail is considered a sandy trail ultramarathon, because it takes place in Al Fayoum desert that is filled with sand.
